![]() Actual Score: 7.Your IP address has been temporarily blocked due to a large number of HTTP requests. It has a few pretty noticeable flaws, but it's still a great time and I definitely recommend it to anybody looking for a wacky, fast-paced first-person platformer (not that it's a big genre). That said, it was still a really entertaining ride for the majority of the 3 to 5 hours I spent on it, and really feels good to play most of the time. It's long and brutal, and is a ridiculous difficulty spike to cap the game off with. On PS4 at my time of writing this, 23.5% of players have earned the trophy for finishing the second-to-last world, but only 1.5% of players have actually finished the game. It is by far the hardest level in the game, and took me over an hour to beat, despite being very good at the game by that point. It requires constant aim adjustment and some precise platforming that doesn't quite jive with the speedy and floaty nature of the game overall. It is easily 3 or 4 times as long as the longest of the other levels, and is essentially a three stage boss fight with escalating difficulty. ![]() Thirdly, and one of the biggest issues, is the final level. On that note, lasers in particular feel like they hit you too easily, like your hitbox is just a little too large. A few levels also felt slightly unfair, with obstacles that are hard to predict. Some levels I would breeze through first try, even well into the later worlds, and others would be a stiff challenge. Secondly, it's fairly inconsistent in terms of difficulty. I would have liked the degree of side and back movement to be increased. For most levels this isn't a big problem, but it's a pain on a few. This wouldn't be so bad, except that almost all your movement potential is forward, with sides and back being severely limited, so you really need to look where you're going. You do a lot of jumping, and it's annoying to have to jump back and forth with your thumb. Firstly, the controls aren't quite ideal, especially on PS4 where you have to move your thumb regularly from the jump button (X) to the right stick to look around. It's fast-paced and a lot of fun to play, but it isn't without its issues. in addition, you can unlock special abilities (double jump, slow time, limited jetpack, etc.) with points you gain by playing well. The levels get crazier and more difficult as you go, and each of the 9 worlds (not including the Halloween and Christmas bonus worlds) has its own theme. Too bad.Ĭlustertruck is a unique first-person platforming game where you jump from truck to truck, avoiding obstacles and making your way to the goal point. Restarting a level may be fast & easy, but now the game is just frustrating, and not fun anymore. But here on PS4 it puts all the worst aspects of the port's rigid, slow free-looking front-and-center where it cannot be ignored anymore. I thought 8-9 was tricky! Not that it wouldn't be all that difficult/intimidating on PC with a mouse either: it's still the final level. So I had to play a few levels a few (dozen) times: not a big deal - that's the "agreement" the player makes with a game like Clustertruck that is, in its own way, deliberately out to get you. Plus you can purchase abilities with your points, and the one that enables a kind-of Bullet Time gives a huge unbalanced handicap. Even with remapping the jump button, a good chunk of the game can be beaten without having to look around AT ALL: 90% of the time you're moving straight & strafing, with some minor spur-of-the-moment repositioning, including the levels where their design forces you to turn 180-degrees. Y'all know the PS4's analogue pad is a poor replacement for a PC mouse. However, the largest barrier to game completion in this port seems to be the free-looking. Yes, the control situation can be temporarily remedied using the "Button Assignments" option in the System "Accessibility" menu - which needs to be done/undone every session. Despite their pathfinding, only the movement of the trucks seems to be randomized, so you can feel like a God ripping through a round once you've memorized every trap and ran the level a few times. CT is very clever, with wacky physics where anything can happen at any time (including arbitrary deaths), and it can even be fun sometimes once you "get" the rhythm of a particular level. I had never played "Clustertruck" before but couldn't ignore the Let's Plays on YouTube when they were trending at their zenith, and I really don't mind first-person platformers. ![]() But I persevered for a long time until then. In fact, the controls for this PS4 port - which are unalterable, outside of the System menu - completely and hopelessly ruin the game, especially now that I am on the infamous final level. I waited until this PS4 port was on sale, finally, for 5 bucks before I took the plunge. New year, new me, which means more backlog consolidating. ![]() ![]() 5h ProgressTL DR Very bad port of a legendary game. ![]()
